چکیده

In order to obtain data concerning the involvement of Mannheimia haemolytica in bovine respiratory disease (BRD) outbreaks, a serological survey was carried out on paired (acuteconvalescent) sera from 1310 beef and 810 dairy cattle collected in 262 BRD outbreaks in Italian herds during 2002-2006. No vaccination program to M. haemolytica A1 was applied in the investigated herds. For each outbreak, 5 to 12 animals were considered for serum sampling. An enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine serum antibody response to M. haemolytica leukotoxin (LKT). Seroconversion involved 467 animals (22%), 314 beef cattle (24%) and 153 dairy cattle (19%), respectively. On a serological basis, M. haemolytica involvement was detected in 162 (62%) BRD outbreaks. Prevalence of seroconversion ranged from 20% to 60%. Concurrent seroconversion to M. haemolytica and the main bovine respiratory viruses was recorded in 141 (54%) outbreaks. Seroconversion to M. haemolytica LKT involved mainly cattle not vaccinated to BRD vi-

How Mannheimia haemolytica defeats host defence through a kiss of death mechanism.

Mannheimia haemolytica induced pneumonias are only observed in goats, sheep and cattle. The bacterium produces several virulence factors, whose principal ones are lipopolysaccharide and leukotoxin. The latter is cytotoxic only for ruminant leukocytes, a phenomenon that is correlated with its ability to bind and interact with the ruminant beta2-integrin Lymphocyte Function-associated Antigen 1. Randomized clinical trial to evaluate the pathogenicity of Bibersteinia trehalosi in respiratory disease among calves

BACKGROUND Bibersteinia trehalosi causes respiratory disease in ruminants particularly in wild and domestic sheep. Recently, there has been an increased number of B. trehalosi isolates obtained from diagnostic samples from bovine respiratory disease cases. This study evaluated the role of B. trehalosi in bovine respiratory disease using an intra-tracheal inoculation model in calves. Thirty six ...

Complete Closed Genome Sequences of a Mannheimia haemolytica Serotype A1 Leukotoxin Deletion Mutant and Its Wild-Type Parent Strain

Mannheimia haemolytica is a bacterial pathogen that secretes leukotoxin (LktA) which binds to leukocyte membranes via CD18, causing bacterial pneumonia in ruminants. We report the complete closed genome sequences of a leukotoxin mutant and its parent strain that are frequently used in respiratory disease studies.

Efficacy of recombinant leukotoxin in protection against pneumonic challenge with live Pasteurella haemolytica A1.

The recombinant leukotoxin (rLKT) of the bacterium Pasteurella haemolytica A1 was examined for its ability to protect cattle from experimental challenge with logarithmic-phase P. haemolytica. Six different vaccines were utilized in the experiment: P. haemolytica culture supernatant, P. haemolytica culture supernatant enriched with rLKT, rLKT alone, P. haemolytica culture supernatant enriched wi...

Pathogenicity of Bibersteinia trehalosi in bovine calves

Introduction Bibersteinia trehalosi has been associated with respiratory disease in ruminants particularly in wild and domestic sheep. Recently, there has been an increased interest in B. trehalosi isolates obtained from diagnostic samples from bovine respiratory disease cases. This study evaluated the role of B. trehalosi in the bovine respiratory disease complex using an intra-tracheal inocul...
